About the Role

The Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities, through the Auditor of State’s office, is hiring an Assistant Auditor 1. In this public service role, you will safeguard taxpayer dollars by performing financial statement audits and testing administrative controls for government clients such as cities, villages, and schools.

What You'll Do

  • Develop a working knowledge of auditing techniques, Ohio State government, professional standards, and state fiscal practices.
  • Serve as a contributing member of an audit team, completing assigned duties and communicating effectively with your team leader.
  • Receive and complete controlled assignments of increasing difficulty and responsibility.
  • Conduct background research on audited agencies, including examination of relevant statutes, rules, and regulations.
  • Travel to audit site locations to obtain audit evidence.
  • Perform audit fieldwork, including visual examination of records and preparation of organized workpapers.
  • Learn to gather, interpret, compile, and analyze data pertinent to audits.
  • Review data and other information relevant to the audit.
  • Participate in interviews of agency staff to elicit information.
  • Help draft audit comments for inclusion in formal audit reports.
  • Prepare preliminary drafts of audit findings.

What We're Looking For

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university OR successful completion of at least 16 semester hours (or equivalent) in accounting or a related field beyond high school OR at least three years’ experience in accounting or a related field.
  • A willingness and ability to travel to audit site work locations.

Nice to Have

  • Accounting education and/or direct experience.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree specifically in Accounting.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • A CPA certification and governmental accounting experience are a definitive plus.
