About the Role

HALO Trust is hiring an Ammunition Technical Specialist (ATS) to provide expert technical support for our Central America operations. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will plan and deliver Weapons and Ammunition Management activities, ensuring all technical delivery aligns with international standards and HALO's policies, with a strong focus on assessments, training, and development.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct thorough risk assessments of ammunition storage facilities, generating detailed reports, recommendations, and action plans for improvement.
  • Develop and deliver specialized ammunition training programs aligned with international best practices.
  • Provide technical guidance to host nation security forces on ammunition segregation, disposal, and transportation.
  • Oversee the safe handling, storage, and transportation of ammunition.
  • Contribute to the development of standardized PSSM training materials and operating procedures.
  • Certify new ammunition storage facilities constructed by HALO.
  • Assess, segregate, and dispose of ammunition stockpiles in accordance with safety protocols.
  • Offer technical mentorship and support to host nation security forces.
  • Provide technical support to the programme at the direction of the operations manager.
  • Ensure that standards are maintained throughout all operational activities and events.
  • Ensure all ammunition assessment, disposal, transport, and other activities are conducted safely, and appropriate risk assessments are carried out.
  • Be prepared to provide general assistance to the management team, covering training courses during colleagues' absences or other activities as directed.

What We're Looking For

  • Extensive experience and proven track record as an Ammunition Technical Officer, Technician, or Specialist.
  • IATG Level 5 Inspector Explosives or equivalent experience in ammunition lifecycle management.
  • In-depth knowledge and application of the International Ammunition Technical Guidelines (IATGs) in challenging environments.
  • Strong understanding of ammunition storage and handling procedures.
  • Ability to learn and train others – willingness to keep abreast of new developments and train others.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities to address complex challenges.
  • Advanced IT proficiency.
  • Full proficiency in Spanish and working knowledge of English required.

Nice to Have

  • IMAS Level 3 Explosive Ordnance Disposal.
  • Experience in harsh and remote environments.
  • Knowledge of Small Arms Light Weapons disposal.
  • Previous work with host nation military or police forces.

Team & Environment

You will report directly to the Operations Manager, providing critical technical support across HALO's Central America programmes.

Work Mode

This is a local-country position based in Honduras, with operational responsibilities potentially extending to Guatemala and El Salvador.
