Airtable is hiring an AI Agent Architect to build and own the technical foundation that powers our AI-native customer support experience. You'll be responsible for the systems that enable our AI agents to reliably and scalably resolve customer issues.
What You'll Do
- Own agent retrieval accuracy and relevance by architecting the knowledge systems that enable AI agents to surface the right answer on the first try.
- Drive automated resolution rates by building the decision frameworks and APIs that allow agents to take confident, auditable actions.
- Manage AI safety and trust by establishing guardrails to catch edge cases, block prompt injection, and prevent unintended behaviors.
- Own the feedback loop by monitoring the observability layer that turns agent behavior into actionable insights for continuous improvement.
- Continuously improve agent quality by developing and maintaining the prompt architecture and systematic approaches to versioning and performance evaluation.
- Drive integration strategy by architecting how agents connect to external systems like billing platforms, CRMs, and internal tools.
What We're Looking For
- A deep understanding of how large language models work—not just how to use them, but how they reason, where they fail, and why.
- Familiarity with concepts like RAG architectures, prompt engineering patterns, chain-of-thought reasoning, and agent frameworks.
- Experience having built or significantly contributed to AI-powered systems in production.
- The ability to think in terms of data flows, state management, error handling, and edge cases to design complex, reliable systems.
- Proficiency in writing scripts, working with APIs, querying databases, and prototyping solutions.
- Skill in instrumenting systems, analyzing logs, and using data to diagnose issues, validate improvements, and tie technical changes to business outcomes.
- Strong communication skills to explain complex AI system behavior to non-technical stakeholders and write clear technical documentation.
