Stratolaunch is hiring an Aerothermal/Thermal Analyst

Position Overview

We are looking for a skilled Aerothermal/Thermal Analyst to join our team focused on developing reusable hypersonic flight test platforms capable of Mach 5+ performance. This role plays a central part in evaluating thermal and aerothermal behavior across vehicle configurations, supporting both design and test phases of advanced aerospace systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct analytical and numerical assessments of thermal and aerothermal performance for hypersonic vehicles
  • Build and apply models to predict heat loads, structural margins, and system-level thermal response
  • Support trade studies comparing candidate materials and configurations for thermal protection upgrades
  • Collaborate on the development and refinement of in-house analysis tools
  • Assist in preparing technical content for proposals to government and industry partners
  • Validate models using ground and flight test data where available

Qualifications

Candidates must have a solid foundation in aerothermal and thermal analysis methods, with demonstrated experience in aerospace vehicle development. Knowledge of high-speed flight environments, thermal protection materials, and supersonic/hypersonic aerodynamics is essential. The ability to work independently, adjust to shifting priorities, and maintain technical rigor is expected. A security clearance will be required; candidates must be able to obtain one.

Preferred qualifications include experience with hot-structure airframes, fuel-cooled propulsion thermal management, high-temperature sealing, and mixed-material thermal protection approaches. Familiarity with flight data correlation and active TS/SCI clearance are advantageous.

Work Environment & Benefits

This position is based in Mojave, California. Well-qualified applicants may be considered for hybrid arrangements, while exceptional candidates may qualify for remote work from outside California. Travel is minimal, typically under 5%. The team operates on a 9/80 schedule, offering every other Friday off.

Comprehensive benefits include medical, dental, vision, and prescription coverage, along with generous 401(k) matching—50% per dollar contributed, up to $11,500 annually. Tuition reimbursement and paid parental leave are also available. The company is committed to inclusion, equal opportunity, and a workplace free from discrimination or harassment.

Technical Tools & Platforms

Proficiency with tools such as FEMAP, NX Simcenter, Solidworks, CATIA, and CFD solvers (US3D, Link3D) is expected. Experience with programming environments like Python and MATLAB, along with CBAERO and Jira, supports daily workflows. Familiarity with MS Office suite is required for documentation and collaboration.
