NRG is looking for an Accounting Manager to join our Accounting Research team, which leads the evaluation of key technical accounting matters and financial reporting requirements. You will serve as a subject matter expert, guiding complex transactions, advising business partners, and ensuring compliance with evolving standards in a dynamic environment.
What You'll Do
- Review complex accounting transactions such as investments, acquisitions, and impairments to determine appropriate U.S. GAAP treatment, providing written documentation and conclusions.
- Provide guidance and present resolutions on issues related to acquisitions, revenue recognition, leases, equity investments, financing transactions, and other technical topics.
- Prepare and assist in reviewing clear and concise accounting memos.
- Assist in compliance with internal and external audit controls, resolve audit matters, and identify control environment gaps.
- Monitor standard-setting authorities for changes to U.S. GAAP or SEC requirements and communicate them to the financial reporting group.
- Integrate amended accounting requirements into company policies and practices.
- Interpret current accounting policies to clarify specific questions and document conclusions.
- Assist the financial reporting team in meeting deadlines as needed.
- Provide technical accounting training to the department and issue CPEs in accordance with NASBA standards.
What We're Looking For
- BS in Accounting or Finance
- Minimum of 7+ years of accounting and/or finance experience
- Background in public accounting; CPA required
- Technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements
- Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally to resolve problems in a timely manner
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts in plain English
- Detail-oriented with ability to manage conflicting priorities without sacrificing accuracy
- Strong initiative and a process improvement mindset
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Nice to Have
- Big 4 experience preferred
- Experience in highly collaborative work environments
- Minimum of four years of SEC reporting experience
- Experience in the energy industry
