Responsibilities
- In a respectful and professional manner, answer all written requests for access to information, in accordance with Tarion’s Access to Information and Privacy Code (consistent with the principles of FIPPA as required by Tarion’s Administrative Agreement);
- Verify the identity of requestors and confirm entitlements to requested information;
- Clarify access requests with requesters and respond to questions around Tarion’s Access to Information and Privacy Code, as required;
- Review voluminous requests for reasonableness and review with requesters to reduce the size and complexity of a request, if appropriate;
- Send third party notices to third parties where necessary (e.g. when requested records contain third party information);
- Search, locate, retrieve, review and sort requested records, including electronic, paper and the ordering off-site paper records as necessary. Compile all documents to respond to requests for access to information.
- Conduct analysis, and vetting of proposed documents for privacy issues, and redact or otherwise address privacy issues as necessary.
- Coordinate and liaise with staff across all departments to ensure the completeness of records;
- Provide support to other departments with respect to disclosure and records management obligations;
- Solicit advice from Legal Counsel on privacy issues and disclosure concerns, as necessary;
- Prepare and deliver formal responses to access requests;
- Compile Access to information inquiry Statistical Reports by: Preparing regular reports for submission to leadership team, Board committees, or other internal committees.
Requirements
- Completion of Post Secondary education.
- Significant experience in one or more of the following: the management of FOI and privacy in a large public sector corporate environment; a law clerk role supporting a privacy function; or experience as an information coordinator or investigator with a privacy focus or as support for a privacy officer.
- Ability to research Orders of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario, legislation, and/or case law, and ability to identify and apply guiding principles to decisions relating to access to information requests where appropriate.
- Work independently under minimal supervision, with occasional consultation for new or complex problems.
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated experience using software programs such as Microsoft Office.
- Excellent customer service skills with an ability to exercise tact, courtesy and sound judgment in relations with internal and external interested parties.
Nice to Have
- Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/C) and/or Certified Records Manager (CRM) or equivalent.
- Coursework and training related to freedom of information and privacy legislation.
- Knowledge of FIPPA/MFIPPA and related legislation, regulations, policies, procedures, interpretations and Information and Privacy Commissioner’s orders pertaining to Ontario is an asset.

- The salary range for this position is $67,520 - $101,300 per year
- This position is a 9-Month Contract
- All remote work must be completed from your home office within the province of Ontario.
