Purdue University is seeking an experienced Academic Department Chair to oversee faculty and curriculum within a dynamic academic department. In this role, you will ensure the currency and relevance of programs while contributing to development and accreditation efforts, all in service of student success and university goals.
What You'll Do
- Directly supervise full- and part-time faculty, including interviewing, hiring, training, planning work, and appraising performance.
- Work on new program development and program revision.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to obtain and maintain program accreditation.
- Build strong working relationships across teams, departments, and schools to cultivate external partnerships that grow student enrollment and engagement.
- Partner with the Scheduling Manager and/or Assistant Chair on class scheduling and faculty assignments.
- Review faculty performance to ensure maintenance of classroom standards.
- Take a lead role in assigned course curriculum oversight with course leaders and the Assistant Dean of Curriculum.
- Make recommendations to the Associate Dean related to hiring, evaluation, and retention of faculty.
- Participate in student retention activities and serve as a point of contact for faculty with student escalation issues.
- Provide a meaningful learning experience for each student in every course.
- Perform other administrative and job-related duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- A terminal degree in Social Work, Human Services (or a related field), or Education from a regionally accredited institution.
- 5+ years of experience in post-secondary education.
Nice to Have
- Candidates with a Master of Social Work (MSW) will be given priority consideration.
- Experience with adult online instruction.
- Prior experience in management or leadership roles.
- Creativity in multiple and diverse arenas.

Team & Environment
You will report to the Associate Dean and work closely with the Assistant Dean of Curriculum, the Scheduling Manager, and department faculty.
Benefits & Compensation
- The target salary for this position is $80,000.
