Unknown Company is hiring an Academic Adviser - Academic Recovery Specialist

About the Role

Penn State University’s Eberly College of Science is hiring an Academic Adviser – Senior Professional to focus on student success. You will provide specialized advising to students navigating academic warning, suspension, or recovery, as well as those intending to pursue Premedicine and Integrative Science majors. The role involves a blend of direct student support, program coordination, and teaching.

What You'll Do

  • Provide academic advising to students in the Eberly College of Science who are in academic difficulty.
  • Advise assigned students intending the premed or integrative science majors.
  • Assist students in navigating University policies, procedures, and program curriculum.
  • Work with students in the academic recovery process to guide them through warning, suspension, and dismissal.
  • Communicate expectations for academic recovery and identify vulnerable students.
  • Coach students in recovery and connect them with supportive resources.
  • Teach a first-year seminar for students interested in Premedicine and/or Integrative Science.
  • Assess student interests, values, and abilities related to their educational and career goals.
  • Coordinate special events and programs such as New Student Orientation and Welcome Day.
  • Meet with prospective students and families for recruitment events as needed.
  • Assist in updating and maintaining the Academic Success website for the college.

What We're Looking For

  • A Master’s Degree.
  • 6+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A strong background in academic advising with a proven track record.
  • Commitment to serving diverse student populations.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Canva.

Nice to Have

  • A background in science.
  • Experience with academic warning advising.
  • Experience working directly with students in academic difficulty.

Team & Environment

You will work as part of a team in the College committed to providing support to students in academic difficulty. The role involves close collaboration with the Director of the Science Advising Center, the Directors of the Premedicine and Integrative Science majors, and the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Students.

  • Salary range: $56,200.00 - $81,500.00.
