A dynamic e-commerce brand (DTC model) looking to level up its operational game. We're a lean, hungry team with a fractional CFO who's all about smart systems and data-driven decisions.
Scope of the Role
We're hunting for an experienced Fractional Controller to take our financial operations from good to great through year-end. This isn't your typical number-crunching gig — it's a strategic, hands-on role perfect for a finance pro who loves working independently and knows the ins and outs of e-commerce accounting.
Duties and Responsibilities:
✅ Financial Management & Reporting
- Maintain and clean up books (accruals, reconciliations, expense categorization)
- Manage day-to-day accounting: AP/AR, chargebacks, bank/credit card reconciliations
- Prepare accurate monthly financial statements: P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow reports
- Collaborate with the fractional CFO on ad-hoc analysis and reporting tasks
✅ Budgeting, Forecasting & Planning
- Build and refine financial projections: revenue, expenses, and cash flow
- Support inventory demand planning using sales trend analysis
- Identify cost-saving and operational efficiency opportunities
✅ Systems & Process Optimization
- Ensure QuickBooks and Shopify integrations run smoothly
- Streamline accounting workflows to support future scaling
- Document financial processes for future team growth
Requirements
Requirements:
✔ 3+ years of experience in accounting/finance, preferably in e-commerce or DTC ✔ Proven Controller-level expertise: full books management, financial statements, forecasting ✔ Proficient in QuickBooks Online (advanced features and reconciliations) ✔ Comfortable with Shopify accounting: order tracking, COGS, and refunds ✔ Advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills: pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, modeling ✔ Familiarity with inventory management/demand planning a strong plus ✔ Highly organized, self-sufficient, and able to work independently in a remote setup
Nice to Have:
- Experience collaborating with fractional CFOs or working in startup environments
- Familiarity with sales tax filings or coordination with tax preparers
- Basic understanding of GAAP
