Responsibilities
- Establish a close collaborative partnership with the physician advisor to function as a cohesive team supporting the applicant throughout the application process.
- Help the applicant reorganize content and ensure that responses and essays have a logical and coherent structure.
- Offer suggestions and guiding questions to assist the applicant in generating content.
- Edit materials to improve clarity, tone, and syntax.
- Proofread materials for grammatical accuracy and word choice.
- Address inquiries regarding the writing process for specific application materials.
- Deliver relevant and actionable feedback.
- Foster a supportive atmosphere for the applicant.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in the humanities or a writing-intensive major (additional professional experience may replace the Master's degree).
- At least 2 years of professional experience in education, which may include university teaching or serving as a teaching assistant (especially for a writing program or humanities course), teaching grades 9-12 (ELA), tutoring (ELA or writing), working as a paraprofessional or instructional assistant in K-12 education, or developing ELA curriculum.
- At least 2 years in a writing-intensive role, such as editing, grant writing, journalism, or content writing.
- Demonstrated behavioral traits including being a natural teacher or guide, compassionate, patient, curious, passionate about writing, flexible or adaptable, seeking professional development, open and responsive to feedback, a team player, and promoting diversity and inclusion.
