UWOSH University of Wisconsin Oshkosh was looking for a Waterfowl Research Technician (2 openings)

The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh is hiring for two field positions: one Waterfowl Research Technician and one Crew Leader. You'll be part of a team conducting a canvasback study from January through April 2026, primarily focused on capturing and marking diving ducks and collecting feather samples for isotopic analysis.

What You'll Do

  • Capture and mark diving ducks.
  • Collect and organize feather samples for isotopic analysis.
  • Collect data and monitor test results according to established research requirements and specifications.
  • Inspect and maintain equipment, supplies, inventory, and facility spaces.
  • Review data to summarize results for presentations or reporting.
  • Perform lab and/or field tests on materials and samples according to established research requirements.
  • May assist with literature reviews and/or report writing.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in wildlife ecology, biology, or a related field.
  • Interest in waterfowl ecology.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Reliable data entry and note-taking skills.
  • Ability to perform assigned responsibilities with minimal supervision.

Nice to Have

  • Experience capturing and banding waterfowl.

Team & Environment

You'll be part of a team on a collaborative project between UW-Stevens Point and several government partners. The Wildlife Ecology Discipline is in the College of Natural Resources at UW-Stevens Point.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Technician position: $15.00/hour
  • Crew lead position: $17.00/hour

Work Mode

This role is fully onsite. Most work will be on or around Pools 13 and 19 on the Mississippi River. There is potential to also work in the Pacific and Atlantic Flyways, at waterfowl wing-bees, and on the UW-Stevens Point campus for brief periods.
