Matrix Aviation Management is hiring a Water Truck Driver for a critical Fly-In/Fly-Out role on our remote Arctic winter team. You will be instrumental in constructing and maintaining the ice road along Bathurst Inlet, Nunavut, by operating a water truck to apply precise layers of water. This position demands resilience, a strong safety focus, and comfort working long shifts in extreme cold temperatures, sometimes down to -40°C or lower.
What You'll Do
- Operate a water truck to apply water in precise layers to build and maintain the ice road.
- Monitor ice thickness and water application to ensure structural integrity and safety.
- Safely drive and maneuver trucks in remote, off-road, and icy conditions.
- Coordinate and communicate with Ice Road Supervisors, Foremen, Equipment Operators, Snowmaking Operators, and Construction Teams.
- Accurately log daily activities, water usage, and areas of concern for road sections within your work area.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies, with emphasis on cold-weather operations and environmental protection.
- Respond to changing road and weather conditions, adjusting driving and water application techniques accordingly.
- Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance of the water truck and related equipment, reporting any mechanical issues promptly.
- Support other winter operations as needed and maintain a proactive safety mindset.
What We're Looking For
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with minimum Class 3 and air brake endorsement.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience.
- Previous experience in ice road construction or winter road maintenance.
- Physically fit and able to work long shifts in extreme cold (down to -40°C or lower).
- Willingness to work in remote locations with limited access to amenities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team with supervision.
- Strong commitment to safety, situational awareness, and environmental stewardship.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol test prior to mobilization.
