Blockworks is hiring a VP of Engineering to lead and scale our engineering organization. You will partner with the CTO and VP of Product to turn ambitious ideas into trusted products at scale. You'll own the teams, systems, and culture across backend, frontend, data, and infrastructure, ensuring delivery of products customers rely on daily.
What You'll Do
- Lead and scale a high-trust engineering organization by hiring, coaching, and retaining world-class engineers across platform, data, and product teams.
- Own the technical roadmap and architecture, ensuring systems are secure, reliable, and built to scale.
- Build quality systems that ship quickly and scale, translating complex problems into elegant, repeatable engineering solutions.
- Shape the culture of engineering excellence, setting the tone for how the team works and driving strong execution, debate, documentation, and support.
- Partner deeply with Product and Data leadership to define what to build, how to build it, and deliver with speed and clarity.
- Be a force-multiplier across the business, collaborating with leaders in Product, Research, Sales, Finance, and Ops to align priorities and communicate tradeoffs.
- Elevate technical rigor across Blockworks by identifying bottlenecks, automating workflows, and instilling a culture of continuous learning.
What We're Looking For
- Proven engineering leader with deep technical instincts, a bias for action, and a track record for building exceptional teams and systems that scale.
- At least 10 years of software engineering experience.
- At least 5 years in a multi-unit leadership role like a Director or VP.
- Demonstrated ability to ship product at scale while maintaining reliability and performance.
- Demonstrated success shipping complex products, building APIs and platforms.
- Understand modern data architectures and infrastructure in data-heavy SaaS products.
- Experience proactively partnering with product and business teams to navigate tradeoffs and drive outcomes.
- Successfully operated in remote and async cultures, building velocity without micromanagement.
- Managed through growth, hired and onboarded senior technical talent, and built structures balancing autonomy with alignment.
Nice to Have
- Experience in or around crypto, financial infrastructure, or petabyte-scale data environments.
- Experience building teams from scratch and mentoring engineering managers.
- Experience helping organizations scale from 'scrappy' to 'scalable'.
- Experience working closely with founders.
- Experience balancing speed with systems thinking and inspiring trust in both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
