Recreation District #1 / Pelican Park is looking for a dedicated Volunteer Assistant Coach to support our youth and adult sports programs. You will help plan, coordinate, and implement activities that promote skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship in a safe and inclusive environment.
What You'll Do
- Use a variety of instructional techniques to meet the needs and improve the abilities of players.
- Assist with planning and implementing the program’s instructional goals and objectives.
- Work with other coaches and designated recreation staff toward common goals.
- Establish performance criteria to evaluate players’ athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis.
- Conference with parents or guardians as necessary regarding their child's performance.
- Determine program strategy based on participants’ capabilities.
- Encourage sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic activity.
- Take all necessary precautions to protect players and facilities, including protecting from hazing or bullying.
- Maintain and secure all equipment and supplies.
- Organize seasonal schedules with the Lead Coach and designated recreation sports staff.
- Follow established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
- Represent the District in a professional manner at all times.
- Maintain nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
- Attend staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
- Respect all officiating decisions.
- Distribute up-to-date practice and game schedules to all parents in a timely manner.
- Arrive at least 30 minutes before each practice or game and maintain an accurate attendance log.
- Provide equal opportunities for every player to participate and develop skills, regardless of ability level.
- Adhere to all behavioral and ethical guidelines established by the recreation department.
- Notify facility staff or park representatives of any incidents or concerns immediately following games or practices.
- Be a positive role model representing the team and program with professionalism, integrity, and enthusiasm.
What We're Looking For
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 1 year of coaching experience.
- Knowledge of offensive and defensive positions.
- Basic knowledge of the rules and regulations for the sport you coach.
- You are detail-oriented and highly organized.
- You are at least 18 years old.
- You can pass a criminal background check.
- You will complete required Coach’s training.
- You agree to and follow the Park’s Code of Conduct.

Volunteers will report to the division supervisor or designated coordinator overseeing the area where they are placed. We believe in the power of unity and coming together as One Team. Work Mode
This volunteer role requires you to be onsite at our facilities.
