Cloud Chamber Montreal is looking for a Visual Effects Team Lead to pioneer the visual effects for our next project. You will lead the creation, implementation, and optimization of high-fidelity real-time VFX for BioShock 4, mentoring a team to bring a richly imagined universe to life.

What You'll Do

  • Design, prototype, and implement real-time visual effects for environment, gameplay, cinematic, and character systems using Unreal Engine 5 and Niagara.
  • Refine the artistic style and quality level of VFX, aligning with the game's creative vision.
  • Develop, document, and maintain efficient VFX pipelines, including asset workflows, optimization guides, and integration standards.
  • Collaborate with technical art and programming teams to diagnose and optimize effects across multiple platforms.
  • Establish best practices for asset creation, shader usage, and GPU/CPU performance and memory.
  • Lead, mentor, and provide feedback to a team of VFX artists, fostering their growth and high-quality production.
  • Partner with departments like Environment, Animation, Lighting, Audio, and Design to seamlessly integrate VFX into gameplay.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all VFX-related topics, guiding interdisciplinary discussions.

What We're Looking For

  • 8+ years in game development, with at least 3 years in a senior or team lead role.
  • Experience shipping one or more AAA titles (console or PC) from conception to launch, recognized for high visual fidelity or technical effect complexity.
  • Bachelor's degree in art or equivalent professional experience.
  • Over 5 years of professional VFX experience in video games, with at least one shipped AAA title as a senior artist or team lead.
  • Expert knowledge of Unreal Engine 5, including Niagara, Material Editor, Sequencer, and Blueprint integration.
  • Strong understanding of real-time pipelines, performance budgets, and optimization techniques.
  • Mastery of timing, movement, and visual storytelling principles to design effects that enhance player immersion.
  • Professional experience with particle simulation and dynamic materials.
  • Mastery of the French language.
  • Mastery of the English language to collaborate effectively with US-based teams.
