Van Driver – Part-Time, Onsite in Pittsburgh, PA
Role Overview
Transport participants in the PLEA Compeer Life Friends Recreation Program safely and efficiently between program sites and community locations. This position plays a key role in enabling individuals to take part in enriching social and recreational experiences throughout Oakland and surrounding areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate passenger vans to transport program participants to and from scheduled destinations in compliance with all traffic laws and safety protocols.
- Support engagement during trips by fostering positive interactions and encouraging participation in planned and spontaneous activities.
- Contribute to a respectful, inclusive environment by building trusting relationships with participants and promoting active involvement.
- Follow assigned routes using written and verbal instructions, adjusting as needed while maintaining safety standards.
- Perform routine vehicle checks, identify mechanical issues, and ensure the van remains in safe operating condition.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Minimum age of 21 years; must maintain personal auto insurance.
- ACT 33, ACT 34, and FBI fingerprint clearances required.
- Proven experience operating vans and handling related equipment.
- Familiarity with Pittsburgh and nearby regions.
- Understanding of federal, state, and local traffic regulations.
- Ability to move freely within the vehicle to assist participants as needed.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a commitment to compassionate, person-centered service.
- Reliable, mature judgment and the ability to adapt to changing schedules and needs.
- Alignment with the values and goals of the PLEA educational program.
Compensation & Benefits
Pay rate of $16 per hour for part-time work. Scheduled shifts are fixed: Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The position is onsite at 160 N. Craig Street, Pittsburgh, PA.
