The Underwriting Governance Specialist supports the Underwriting Audit Manager in executing the underwriting audit plan, following up on audit findings, and managing underwriting controls across all classes of business for CNA and Hardy. This role also assists in maintaining the underwriting governance framework, including underwriting authorities, breach analysis, and exception reporting.
What You'll Do
- Assist the Underwriting Audit Manager in delivering the underwriting audit plan across all classes of business for both CNA and Hardy.
- Follow up on audit findings and support associated underwriting controls activities.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements at a level appropriate to the position.
- Assist in the development and expansion of the underwriting audit framework.
- Support the underwriting audit process, including designing audit pre-audit questionnaires, pre-audit information, and summary templates.
- Communicate underwriting audit results to the business and provide regular reports to Business Unit Heads and senior management.
- Monitor and manage actions arising from underwriting audits to ensure timely completion.
- Produce monthly reporting on the status of outstanding actions from underwriting audits.
- Maintain and monitor underwriting policy watch lists and the underwriting breach log.
- Assist the Underwriting Audit Manager with remediation and follow-up actions related to breaches.
- Identify trends and themes within underwriting audit actions and provide reports to the Underwriting Audit Manager and relevant stakeholders.
- Manage controls associated with the issuance of all staff underwriting authorities.
- Ensure all underwriting authorities are reviewed annually.
- Ensure all new employee underwriting authorities are processed appropriately.
- Support Business Unit Heads in coaching new employees on CNA Hardy underwriting principles.
- Support the development of underwriting systems to promote remote auditing.
What We're Looking For
- Knowledge and experience of either Lloyd’s or the company markets.
- Solid communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage difficult conversations.
- Solid knowledge and experience in a technical area, underwriting a commercial line of business, or a role in compliance or governance for a commercial insurer or syndicate.
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to identify, analyse, and resolve issues.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
- Good report authoring skills for drafting reports to stakeholders.
- Ability to work with key departments including Underwriting, Legal & Compliance, Risk, and Internal Audit.
- Effective time management to ensure completion of the underwriting audit timetable.
