About the Role

EPM is seeking an experienced mortgage Underwriter to join their team. You will be responsible for ensuring real estate loan applications are completed correctly and in accordance with investor guidelines and industry standards, playing a key role on a winning team.

What You'll Do

  • Independently underwrite a wide range of mortgage loans, including FHA, VA, USDA, and conventional products, ensuring compliance and sound decision-making through both automated and manual analysis.
  • Ensure all loan files meet HUD, FHA, investor, regulatory, and internal guidelines and overlays.
  • Review and analyze credit, income, assets, and collateral documentation to determine loan eligibility and risk, requesting additional information as needed.
  • Review mortgage loan applications and supporting documents to ensure all required information is complete for approval or rejection, making accurate and timely decisions.
  • Verify all received information is accurate, compliant, and aligns with company policies.
  • Communicate and document reasons for loan approval or rejection, keeping clients and loan officers well-informed.
  • Collaborate with internal operations team members, clients, and brokers to gather documentation, clarify information, and ensure smooth loan processing.
  • Meet company SLAs for loan turnaround times and file quality standards.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by responding to client inquiries regarding application statuses or documentation requirements.
  • Perform additional responsibilities related to business needs.

What We're Looking For

  • Active DE/CHUMS and LAPP/SAR certification.
  • Minimum 2 years of manual underwriting experience.
  • 5+ years of mortgage underwriting or mortgage lending experience.
  • High school diploma.
  • Understanding of compliance standards, including federal regulations (e.g., RESPA, TILA, and Dodd-Frank) and company policies.
  • Knowledge of home loans and residential mortgages such as conventional, VA, FHA, USDA, and Non-QM products.
  • Knowledgeable in automated underwriting systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong decision-making and communication skills.
  • Recent experience with wholesale underwriting.

Nice to Have

  • College degree.
  • Proficiency with the Encompass loan origination system.
