Univar Solutions is hiring a Transportation Supervisor to oversee the day-to-day operational activity at our Phoenix location, ensuring we meet customer service and financial targets effectively. This role acts as the main site point of contact for transportation execution, implementing activities led by the District Transportation Manager and driving regional strategy initiatives.
What You'll Do
- Directly supervise drivers, ensuring safe dispatch and return.
- Manage labor hours and consumable supplies within the forecast budget.
- Prepare driver work schedules, including extra workdays, overtime, and shift hours.
- Monitor driver performance to ensure on-time service levels are met.
- Review productivity KPI reports to improve dispatch routing and truck utilization.
- Optimize driver routes and ensure efficient workflow.
- Assist with the hiring process for new drivers.
- Investigate and respond to customer complaints.
- Interpret, train, and implement company policies related to food safety, DOT, EHS, and record keeping.
- Ensure driver compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies, including DOT and OSHA.
- Coordinate with the Safety department on training, observations, accident investigations, and inspections.
- Manage record keeping for driver credentials like HazMat endorsements and DOT physicals.
- Work with relevant personnel in the event of a safety spill or release.
- Organize required repairs and manage the licensing, registration, and preventative maintenance of the private fleet.
- Interact with key maintenance vendors to ensure work is completed effectively.
- Monitor maintenance and repair spending, communicating on overspending or areas for improvement.
- Resolve tactical issues with carriers to ensure on-time pickup and collaborate on delivery delays.
- Provide feedback on carrier performance for quarterly business reviews.
- Make recommendations for improvement in efficiency and cost reduction.
- Visit customer locations as needed to address issues and assess delivery difficulty.
- Successfully lead individual and team discussions and meetings.
- Apply all relevant policies in a consistent, timely, and objective manner.
What We're Looking For
- High School Diploma/GED required.
- 5+ years of supervisory leadership experience.
- Knowledgeable in DOT, FMCSA, and Hours of Service regulations.
- Experience managing and dispatching drivers.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Solid understanding of Microsoft Office applications.
Nice to Have
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Basic understanding of Transportation Management software and SAP.
- Knowledge of chemical distribution facility operations.
- HazMat certification or TWIC credentials.
- Previous experience working in a unionized environment.
