Transmission Engineer – Energy Infrastructure
Role Overview
We are looking for a Transmission Engineer to join our expanding Energy team. In this role, you will focus on the civil and structural aspects of transmission and distribution systems, contributing to engineering design, analysis, and project delivery. You will work closely with cross-functional teams and external partners to ensure safe, efficient, and code-compliant solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct engineering analysis for overhead transmission lines, including structural loading, conductor behavior, foundation design, and alignment planning
- Develop detailed construction packages with plan and profile drawings, material specifications, structure selection, and technical calculations
- Use PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-TOWER for modeling, simulation, and design validation
- Support all phases of project development—from scope definition and cost estimation to scheduling and field implementation
- Ensure designs meet NESC, ASCE, and internal engineering standards
- Collaborate with permitting, substation, and project management teams, as well as contractors and regulatory agencies
- Provide field support including site walks, sketching, measurements, and responses to contractor inquiries
- Help refine design practices and documentation processes to improve consistency and efficiency
- Identify and resolve site-specific challenges related to geotechnical conditions, access, environmental factors, and constructability
- Engage regularly with client engineers and technical representatives
- Assist in developing cost and effort estimates for project proposals
- Maintain productive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders
- Travel occasionally to client sites and other office locations as needed
- Perform physical tasks such as climbing ladders and taking field measurements when required
Qualifications
Candidates should have a solid understanding of civil and structural engineering principles as applied to transmission and distribution infrastructure. Experience with PLS suite tools is essential. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically proficient, and comfortable working in both office and field environments.
Work Environment
This is a hybrid position with flexibility to work from one of several Southeast regional offices including Charlotte, Raleigh, Columbia, Atlanta, Richmond, Nashville, Chattanooga, Orlando, and Louisville. Some travel and fieldwork will be required.
