About the Role

Mass General Brigham Community Physicians, Inc. is hiring a Thoracic ICU Nurse (BWH). In this role, you will be a Registered Nurse responsible and accountable for planning and providing patient care for assigned patients in the Thoracic ICU in accordance with Nursing Standards of Care. You will demonstrate initiative, knowledge, and clinical skills in caring for patients with complex needs.

What You'll Do

  • Be accountable for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating a plan of care for a specific patient assignment.
  • Set priorities when organizing care for patients with varying acuity.
  • Maintain continuity through clear and concise (verbal and written) communication.
  • Document patient care in a manner that is clear, complete, concise and in compliance with nursing documentation standards.
  • Develop comprehensive plans of care and discharge plans based on patient assessments and information from the healthcare team.
  • Develop a comprehensive educational plan for the patient and family.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the plan of care and revise as needed.
  • Participate actively in unit-based and organizational quality management and/or quality improvement programs.
  • Provide a safe environment for patients, staff, family and visitors.
  • Administer medication safely according to established policies and procedures.
  • Perform nursing procedures safely and efficiently.
  • Use equipment safely and efficiently while utilizing universal precautions.
  • Interact with patients, families, and colleagues in a professional manner and collaborate with other disciplines.
  • Uphold the A.N.A. code of ethics and act as a role model.
  • Participate in determining and implementing unit goals and objectives, and serve on unit-based and organizational committees.
  • Assume responsibility for personal and professional growth and share knowledge with colleagues.
  • Utilize nursing research findings in clinical practice and contribute to research endeavors.
  • Utilize time and materials in an effective and economical manner, providing suggestions for cost-effective care.
  • Assess patient's acuity accurately when making decisions regarding staffing, transfers and assignments.
  • Participate in the orientation of new staff members, students and others as appropriate.
  • Assume responsibility for the unit in the absence of leadership personnel.
  • Adhere to and aid in interpreting hospital and nursing policies, recommending changes through appropriate channels.
  • Participate in the cooperative effort and peer support required for the smooth running of the unit.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required (for newly licensed nurses).
  • Massachusetts Registered Nurse license required.
  • At least one year RN experience required.
  • Current thoracic, lung transplant, and CVVH experience required.
  • Evidence of the basic analytic thinking necessary to care for a group of patients.
  • Demonstrated observational skills and the ability to set priorities.
  • Ability to function under stress with good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Effective skills in applying hospital standards in area of service, teamwork, communication, respect for others, and time/priority management.

Team & Environment

You will be directly responsible to a designated Nurse Manager or Supervisor.
