Washington University in St. Louis is hiring a Pre-Certification Coordinator I (Hybrid) for the Surgery department. You will perform varied professional services to ensure medical and surgical services are accomplished efficiently and reimbursement is maximized through required interaction with third-party payers.
What You'll Do
- Initiate and facilitate the pre-determination process.
- Contact appropriate insurance companies for benefit verification and pre-certification of surgical and nonsurgical procedures; notify financial counselor for pre-payment of un-coded services.
- Supply all documentation required during the pre-certification process to insurance companies.
- Maintain daily surgery and procedure schedules for department faculty; maintain open communication with physicians and their assistants regarding their schedules.
- Maintain a written log of all pre-certifications in process; notify hospital utilization and billing department of pre-certification.
- Document when pre-certification is received from insurance companies.
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent high school certification, or a combination of education and experience.
- 2 years of experience in a Medical Office Setting.
Nice to Have
- Associate degree.
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) - American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) - American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
- Skills in communication, working with external and internal customers, insurance knowledge, interpersonal communication, managed care, medical insurance coding, organizing, and third-party payers.

- Compensation: $20.57 - $30.84 per hour.
