Elastic is looking for a Technical Writer I to join the Documentation team. This role is for a technically savvy writer who will own documentation for Kibana visualizations and developer content. You’ll explore the product hands-on by building dashboards, testing APIs, and figuring out how things work to create accurate, effective guidance.
What You'll Do
- Own documentation for Kibana visualizations and related workflows.
- Explore features hands-on by building visualizations, testing APIs, and validating real-world use cases.
- Work directly with Engineering, Product, and Support to ensure documentation reflects actual product behavior and intent.
- Shape clear, goal-oriented guidance, not just feature descriptions.
- Partner with other writers to ensure consistency across sophisticated, multi-layered content.
- Improve UI copy in partnership with Design, Engineering, and Product.
- Contribute via our Git-based docs workflow using Markdown, pull requests, and reviews.
- Use AI tools to accelerate research and drafting, while validating technical accuracy before publishing.
- Raise the quality bar through thoughtful peer reviews and structural feedback.
What We're Looking For
- 2+ years of technical experience in a SaaS or developer-focused environment.
- A hands-on approach where you test things yourself.
- Problem-solving skills to untangle something complex and explain it simply.
- Comfort with Docs-as-Code workflows using Git and GitHub for PRs, branching, and reviews.
- Curiosity and a desire to explore and learn new things.
- AI fluency: comfortable using generative AI tools to accelerate technical understanding and content development.
- Proactive communication to sync with engineers and align with writers.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Elasticsearch, Kibana, or other vector database or visualization tools.
- Experience documenting or testing REST APIs using Postman, cURL, or Kibana Dev Tools.
- Ability to read code in one or more languages.
- Strong intuition for data and building visualizations that communicate something meaningful.
