Aurora Innovation was looking for a Technical Lead Engineering Manager

Aurora Innovation is hiring a Technical Lead Engineering Manager to join our Autonomy Integration Team. You will be responsible for deploying the Aurora Driver on partner vehicle platforms, ensuring system safety and reliability, and leading a team of engineers.

What You'll Do

  • Interface with ECUs to report state and control vehicle platforms, detect error conditions, and initiate behavioral responses.
  • Build and maintain tests and test infrastructure to validate integration onto target platforms.
  • Ensure system integration with the base vehicle platform has complete redundancy and no single point failure modes.
  • Map Aurora Driver software components to hardware components to meet hardware constraints.
  • Monitor onboard system performance metrics and identify optimization hot spots.
  • Maintain onboard orchestration of launching software components.
  • Optimize speed and reliability of primary product functions from key-on to trip launch, completion, and re-launch.
  • Enhance speed and reliability of secondary product functions like software upgrades and maintenance.
  • Lead a team of 10-20 engineers to develop plans achieving company objectives.
  • Decide on technical approaches while trading off against competing efforts and value.
  • Direct execution of programs staffed by internal and external team members.
  • Identify technical and schedule risks and generate solution ideas to reduce risk.

What We're Looking For

  • 8+ years experience in autonomous vehicles, robotics, aerospace, or complex autonomy systems.
  • 3+ years in a formal management or TLM role.
  • Proven track record integrating complex software stacks onto diverse hardware/embedded platforms.
  • Experience building automated test infrastructure for software-in-the-loop (SIL) and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) integrations.
  • History of successfully navigating technical trade-offs between software, embedded, and hardware challenges.
  • Ability to translate vague product goals into concrete technical requirements and execution plans.

Nice to Have

  • Strong experience with ECU communication protocols (CAN, Ethernet, etc.) and real-time operating systems (RTOS).
  • Familiarity with how onboard systems interact with cloud services for remote human guidance or telemetry.
  • Experience in redundancy patterns and fault-tolerant architecture for safety-critical systems.
  • Experience working directly with Tier 1 automotive suppliers or OEMs on platform-specific integration.
