Blackboard is hiring a Technical Lead to act as architect and builder for a new AI-native product. You will design the system from the ground up, establish a culture of AI-native development, and recruit a small team.

What You'll Do

Establish the norms, workflows, and standards for AI-native development at scale.
Design, architect, and build the core system — a stateful, multi-layer architecture spanning data ingestion, decision logic, and AI-powered delivery.
Own the full technical vision and be accountable for it.
Build a Core Intelligence Architecture: a multi-layer, decoupled system with a persistent learner state model and a rules-based decision layer.
Build Data & Integration Layer: event-driven pipelines, APIs, and LMS integration for real-time data ingestion.
Build AI & Agent Architecture: a multi-agent system with prompt engineering, guardrail systems, and observability infrastructure.
Establish an AI-native development culture: AI tools as the default, human judgment as the filter.
Implement weekly ship cycles, high observability, and a bias toward iteration.
Hire and mentor a small senior team (2–3 Product Engineers) as the product scales.
Stay on the bleeding edge of the AI ecosystem and make adoption decisions.

What We're Looking For

Proven track record shipping complex, stateful AI or data-driven systems in production — not just prototypes.
Fluency in LLM application development: orchestration, RAG pipelines, prompt engineering, guardrail design.
