What You'll Do
Lead the technical direction for building and scaling peer-to-peer applications using the Pear Runtime and Holepunch stack. Serve as the key point of contact between internal engineering teams and the core Holepunch developers, ensuring alignment on releases, integrations, and roadmap planning.
Translate product goals into robust technical designs that leverage decentralized technologies like Hypercore, Hyperdrive, and Hyperswarm. Architect modular, maintainable systems using React Native and Electron to deliver high-performance desktop and mobile applications that operate entirely without centralized infrastructure.
Design intuitive, cross-platform user experiences for real-time collaboration, encrypted messaging, video calling, and secure file sharing. Champion local-first principles, end-to-end encryption, and offline-first capabilities across all products. Lead code reviews, performance optimization, and testing strategies to ensure reliability and speed.
Mentor engineers across teams, facilitate knowledge transfer, and coordinate documentation and training efforts. Represent the engineering organization when engaging with external partners and open-source contributors. Contribute improvements back to foundational libraries and support community adoption of the platform.
Requirements
- Professional experience shipping production apps using React Native and/or Electron
- Proven track record building modular, reusable codebases and publishing npm packages
- Minimum of five years in software engineering roles with increasing responsibility
- Experience leading small teams and collaborating across distributed, remote environments
- Strong command of Node.js, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript ecosystems
- Hands-on work with local-first data architectures and conflict-resolution strategies
- Familiarity with peer-to-peer networking, data synchronization, and asynchronous programming models
- Direct experience deploying apps to mobile, desktop, or browser stores
- Understanding of end-to-end encryption, secure storage, and privacy-preserving design
- Proficiency with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and collaborative development workflows
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
