Position OverviewWe are seeking a dedicated Physical Education Elementary Teacher to join our team for the 2026–2027 school year. This role serves two elementary schools: Curtis ES at 0.8 full-time equivalent and Salem ES at 0.2 FTE. The teacher will deliver instruction aligned with state standards, create an engaging and secure learning environment, and support student development through physical education.
Key Responsibilities
- Instruct students at assigned times and locations, ensuring consistent attendance and engagement.
- Design and maintain a classroom environment that supports active learning within available resources.
- Prepare lesson plans and provide evidence of instructional planning when requested.
- Demonstrate strong command of physical education content and pedagogical practices.
- Take appropriate safety measures to protect students, equipment, and facilities.
- Deliver curriculum-aligned instruction and adjust teaching strategies based on ongoing student assessment.
- Use district-prescribed curriculum materials to guide daily instruction.
- Maintain classroom discipline in accordance with division policies on student behavior.
- Supervise students during non-instructional times, including before and after school, activities, and emergency drills.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to plan and implement effective instruction.
- Attend required faculty and departmental meetings.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about student progress and concerns.
- Comply with federal, state, and local regulations governing public education.
- Engage in professional development to enhance instructional effectiveness.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by school administration.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold, or be eligible for, a Virginia teaching license with an Elementary Education endorsement. Required competencies include knowledge of instructional methodologies, curriculum content for elementary grades, and the ability to set instructional goals, deliver lessons, and assess student learning. Strong communication skills—both oral and written—are essential, as are abilities in decision-making, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and interpersonal relations. All candidates must pass required background checks, including FBI and State Police criminal history investigations, Child Protective Services screening, and tuberculosis testing.
Work Environment
This is an onsite position with assignments at two elementary school locations. The role utilizes standard office equipment and education-specific tools and materials. Employees are expected to adhere to professional standards and contribute to a collaborative, inclusive, and supportive school culture.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $55,046.62 to $83,594.34. Benefits vary based on employment status and may include health, retirement, and leave options.
