Ensemble Performing Arts is looking for a Tax Accountant to join our Finance team. You will be responsible for federal and state income tax compliance, sales and use tax filings, and foreign tax filings (VAT/GST). This role is ideal for someone excited to build and refine compliance processes that support our growing organization.
What You'll Do
- Compile and analyze revenue and sales tax data from business locations across the country.
- Submit monthly, quarterly, and annual sales tax data for filing through AvaTax software.
- Reconcile sales tax and use tax payable accounts on the balance sheet monthly.
- Administer and maintain the Avalara platform for accurate tax calculations and filings.
- Manage state and local sales tax registrations and ongoing account maintenance.
- Provide financial information to external auditors for proper filing of Forms 1065 and 1120 for all entities.
- Track and maintain federal and state income tax correspondence, including payments.
- Compute and reconcile deferred tax accounts for our C-Corp entity and taxes payable for all partnership entities.
- Act as the primary liaison with external auditors for all tax requests.
- Compile and file required foreign tax reports, including VAT and GST.
- Reconcile balance sheets associated with foreign tax accounts.
- Manage the organization and timely submission of business personal property tax filings across all locations.
- Assist in developing and refining systems and processes to support compliance.
- Provide ongoing back-office support to businesses across the portfolio.
- Identify opportunities to reduce manual effort and improve accuracy across tax workflows.
What We're Looking For
- A business degree in Accounting or Tax with 3-5 years of experience.
- Proficiency with balance sheet reconciliations.
- Experience registering, filing, and managing accounts for state and local sales tax and business personal property tax.
- Strong time-management, prioritization, and multitasking skills, comfortable managing many concurrent deadlines.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a low tolerance for errors in compliance data.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A positive, resourceful attitude and good judgment when navigating ambiguous situations.
- Thrives in and drives change in a growth environment, comfortable building processes where few exist.
- Works well as part of a team and collaborates effectively across departments.
Nice to Have
- Working knowledge of UK VAT, Canadian GST & HST, or other international tax.
