Applied Intuition is seeking a System Safety Engineer to lead vehicle-level safety case development and integration for driving functions and platform systems. This role requires hands-on experience in functional safety engineering, applying ISO 26262 standards, and collaborating across hardware, software, and integration teams to ensure end-to-end safety implementation.
What You'll Do
- Develop and own vehicle-level safety cases for driving functions and platform integration
- Translate safety analysis into clear, implementable safety requirements and constraints
- Apply ISO 26262 Part 3 (Concept Phase), Part 4 (System Development), and Part 9 (analysis & decomposition)
- Work across vehicle features (braking, steering, ADAS, body functions) to identify risks and define mitigations
- Hands-on development of safety artifacts aligned to road-driving features (e.g., hazard analysis, FMEA, safety case structures)
- Collaborate with HW, SW, and integration teams to ensure safety is correctly implemented end-to-end
- System level working knowledge and good exposure to HW FMEA’s for vehicle safety case measures
- Support vehicle bring-up and validation with safety checks aligned to system behavior
- Create and maintain safety artifacts (hazard analysis, FMEA, safety case, traceability)
- Experience with or willingness to support mining / off-road vehicle safety programs
- Familiarity with ISO 19014 or ISO 13849
- Exposure to system-level hazard analysis and safety requirements for heavy machinery
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline
- 2+ years of experience in functional safety or systems engineering, preferably within an OEM or Tier-1 ADAS program
- Hands-on experience in vehicle-level safety case development
- Strong knowledge of ISO 26262 and road vehicle features enablement
Nice to Have
- Experience working in OEM / Tier-1 / vehicle programs preferred
- Experience with HARA/HAZOP, System FMEA, and safety case derivation
- Good understanding of vehicle systems (ADAS, braking, steering, control systems)
- Ability to bridge system, hardware, and software interactions

Compensation: Base salary range of $113,800 - $250,000 USD annually, equity in the form of options and/or restricted stock units. Base salary is a single component of the total compensation package.
Work Mode
Onsite at one of the following locations: Sunnyvale, California; Washington, D.C.; San Diego; Ft. Walton Beach, Florida; Ann Arbor, Michigan; London; Stuttgart; Munich; Stockholm; Bangalore; Seoul; Tokyo. Employees are expected to work from the office 5 days a week, but occasional remote work is allowed. Flexibility includes starting the day with morning meetings from home before heading to the office or leaving earlier when needed to accommodate family commitments. Employees are trusted to manage their schedules responsibly.
