Role Overview
This position is responsible for expanding Alcon’s market reach in North NSW, covering regions such as the Central Coast and Newcastle. The Surgical Account Manager will focus on strengthening relationships with key surgical accounts, driving adoption of cataract consumables and intraocular lenses (IOLs), and ensuring seamless coordination across product lines.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead sales performance and market share growth for cataract consumables, including Phaco Paks and Custom Paks, within the assigned territory
- Develop and execute account strategies for cataract-dominant facilities and select monofocal IOL customers
- Translate customer insights into effective commercial actions by understanding local dynamics and decision-making structures
- Deliver comprehensive support to customers, aligning Alcon’s offerings with clinical and economic needs
- Engage stakeholders through value-based selling, using budget impact models and clinical evidence to support adoption
- Collaborate with technical and clinical experts to address complex inquiries and support solution implementation
- Organize and lead local events tailored to customer requirements
- Monitor competitor activity and support conversion initiatives from competitive products
- Prepare and negotiate quotes, supporting contract and tender processes
- Maintain accurate records using Salesforce to track engagements, plan activities, and manage opportunities
Qualifications
Candidates must have full work rights in Australia and hold a university degree or equivalent. A background in medical devices or pharmaceuticals within a surgical setting is essential, with 2–3 years of relevant experience preferred. Deep familiarity with cataract procedures, equipment, and IOLs is required, along with a solid grasp of surgical anatomy, physiology, and optics.
Applicants should demonstrate strong sales acumen, proficiency in consultative selling, and the ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments. Experience with CRM platforms, particularly Salesforce, is advantageous. Success in this role demands excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to operate independently within a matrix organization.
Work Environment
This is a field-based role focused on North NSW, including Central Coast and Newcastle. The position requires frequent travel within the region to engage with customers and partners.
