The City of New York's Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) is hiring a Summer Graduate Intern to contribute to the City's disaster recovery efforts. You will support the Managed Grants Task Force and learn the fundamentals of federal grant management, including the FEMA grants process and the National Flood Insurance Program.
What You'll Do
- Support data analysis and data engineering projects related to grants management.
- Assist in reviewing large datasets to identify buildings potentially at risk from climate-related disasters.
- Monitor City agency grant receivables and cash collection, produce reports for management, and support documentation systems for grant compliance.
- Identify and produce solutions that improve task speed and accuracy, such as scripting or reports.
- Become familiar with the NYC Financial Management System and how OMB uses QuickBase within the Grant Management System.
What We're Looking For
- Currently enrolled or accepted into a graduate program.
- Strong analytical, quantitative, research, and communication skills.
- Proficient in MS Word and Excel.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team with moderate supervision.
- Interest in learning about New York City governance, disaster recovery, and budgeting.
- A cover letter is required to be considered.
Nice to Have
- Prior experience with federal grants.
- Experience administering large database management systems.
- Experience building automation and ETL for data analysis and engineering.
- Experience using GIS software and/or programming languages like Python and SQL.
