Unknown Company is hiring a Studio & Live Events Engineer (Hybrid)

About the Role

CarMax is looking for a Studio & Live Events Engineer to manage production in our studio and for live events. This hybrid role is responsible for operating and maintaining A/V equipment to ensure high-quality assets and experiences for both recordings and live performances.

What You'll Do

  • Manage all aspects of the studio control room, including camera and lighting operation, and controlling images on LED walls.
  • Run audio set-ups, including microphone choice, placement, and sound mixing for studio and stage programs.
  • Handle props, stage settings, and program green screens for background replacement in live and recorded content.
  • Maintain and store all raw elements captured in the studio and create graphic elements for programming.
  • Perform editorial duties for recorded film programs and maintain hardware and software in the studio space.
  • Own relationships with external vendors and lead live camera switching, lighting, audio, and stage direction for events.
  • Switch sources between live and remote speakers, PowerPoints, and videos, determining when to use picture-in-picture.
  • Assist in creating and producing in-show activities and integrate into planning and blocking to ensure the best viewer experience.
  • Partner closely with Technology to ensure systems work properly and improve the overall experience.
  • Collaborate with Creative, Technology, and Internal Communications teams to ensure a quality experience.
  • Partner with project managers, producers, and clients to balance multiple projects and manage expectations with Senior Leadership.
  • Keep all hardware and software up to date and operational, ensuring compatibility despite manufacturer updates and security regulations.
  • Maintain positive vendor relationships for upgrades and continue refining the live event experience, addressing audio and lighting challenges.

What We're Looking For

  • 5 or more years of experience in production, especially TV/broadcast news and live event processes and equipment.
  • Expertise in key hardware and software, including robotic cameras, CueScript teleprompter, wireless microphones, mixing live sound, and running a broadcast-level control board.
  • Ability to incorporate feedback and take or give clear direction.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Impeccable organizational skills and the ability to work independently, manage multiple work streams, and deliver on tight deadlines.
  • A relentless desire to stay on top of trends and maintain best practices.
  • Proven ability to collaborate successfully with marketing, product, operations, and other creative teams.
  • Ability to motivate, influence, and persuade across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong business partnerships and stay connected with various areas of the business.
  • Ability to determine customer-specific needs and put forth actions to meet them.
  • Ability to develop, execute, and adjust a plan with a high degree of independence.
  • Ability to grow associates through constructive feedback and encouragement.

Nice to Have

  • Four-year college degree (BA/BS) in Mass Communication, Broadcasting, Journalism, or a related field.
  • Adobe Creative Suite experience.
