The University of British Columbia (UBC) is hiring a Student Learning Coordinator for the Learning Exchange. This role is central to developing, implementing, and evaluating student learning opportunities at the Learning Exchange and in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside (DTES). You will initiate relationships with faculty and collaborate with community partners to integrate students into programming while supporting local residents, bridging connections between UBC and the DTES community.
What You'll Do
- Advise and collaborate with faculty across campus to develop curricular community-based learning experiences at the Learning Exchange.
- Maintain and improve unit structures for systematic tracking, reporting and evaluation of student learning experiences.
- Place, orient, support and supervise individual and groups of students doing community-based learning experiences at the Learning Exchange and in the Downtown Eastside (DTES).
- Contribute to the development and achievement of the Learning Exchange's Action Plan student learning objectives.
- Plan and supervise student learning experiences in partnership with community organizations in the Downtown Eastside.
- Partner with UBC and community stakeholders to co-develop robust orientation curriculum and materials to orient students to the DTES.
- Strengthen the Learning Exchange team's capacity to efficiently orient, support and integrate students into community programs, events and partnerships.
- Collaborate with other campus units on overall institutional priorities for student-engaged learning.
- Make presentations on campus about Learning Exchange to promote student learning opportunities and raise awareness about the DTES.
- Collaborate with the staff team on the recruitment, hiring and supervision of student staff.
- Liaise with faculty about scheduling and logistics for academic activities held at the Learning Exchange.
- Establish programming budget needs and manage the budget.
- Provide front-line support to community-based programs as part of the Learning Exchange team.
- Plan and deliver student and community events, for example forums, exhibitions, and field trips.
- Provide regular updates to the Learning Exchange staff team and participate in Learning Exchange work planning cycles.
- Work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and Saturdays as required.

- Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
- Minimum of two years of related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice to Have
- Demonstrated experience with curriculum development or educational design and programming, including understanding of academic curriculum and learning objectives.
- Excellent knowledge of and experience with community-based experiential learning.
- Demonstrated experience supporting and supervising students, preferably in community settings.
- Experience with consultative planning processes in educational contexts.
- Experience with program planning, coordination and evaluation, including setting of goals and priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to lead within a team as a peer.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders in cross-cultural settings.
- Experience in community development, community-based organizations, adult education and historically, persistently and systemically marginalized communities is an asset.
- Knowledge of community development principles and inner-city interests, resources and organizations in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver or similar community.
- Ability to maintain connection between a long-range vision and day-to-day functions; both goal and process oriented.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead others and to function as an effective team member.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, experience in conflict resolution, and ability to adapt and ability to manage a demanding workload by determining priorities, planning ahead, anticipating problems and meeting them head on.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to the University community and the DTES community.
- Commitment to the philosophy, values and goals of the Learning Exchange and UBC's strategic plan.
Technical Stack
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Software, email, and internet.
- Experience in Canva or other graphic design, and interactive presentation software is an asset.
Team & Environment
This role reports to the Director of the Learning Exchange. You will work within the Learning Exchange with the leadership team, program and student staff.
Benefits & Compensation
- Monthly salary range: $4,970.92 - $7,141.92 CAD.

This is an onsite position based in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside (DTES).
