Corning is seeking a Staff Engineer to provide technical leadership on thermal equipment design projects for specialized manufacturing processes. You will be part of the Manufacturing, Technology and Engineering division (MTE), planning, scoping, and controlling complex projects related to design for melting, forming, heat treating, batching, and related process services.
What You'll Do
- Provide technical leadership on one or more projects, acting as the primary technical lead on thermal equipment projects.
- Propose, plan (scope), and implement projects requiring engineering analysis.
- Comprehend and apply sound engineering principles in the design of thermally functioning process equipment.
- Apply engineering principles primarily in the fields of mechanical design, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics, using numerical and physical modeling.
- Collaborate with scientists and process experts as part of the engineering process.
- Collaborate with manufacturing operations to further define and receive new and modified process equipment.
- Recommend and implement improvements to mechanical equipment.
- Supervise equipment installation and on-site commissioning as required.
- Coordinate with project managers and other team members to meet project goals.
- Effectively communicate plans, progress, and problems to all concerned parties.
- Develop and update engineering documentation.
What We're Looking For
- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering (Chemical may be considered).
- Minimum 5 years of project, engineering, and design experience.
- Experience working in manufacturing or industrial environments.
- Strong technical fundamentals with thermal equipment.
- Knowledge of mechanical design, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.
- Experience in working with high temperature processes and equipment.
- Results oriented, with a focus on delivering tasks to project schedules.
- Effective communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to communicate across research, development, engineering, commercial, and operations worldwide.

Work Mode
This role requires onsite presence.
