Micron is hiring a Staff Engineer

About the Role

Micron is looking for a Staff Engineer to direct the technical activities in validation, system integration, and collaborative qualification of our Enterprise and Datacenter NVMe SSD products. You will oversee the validation strategy, engage in firmware, hardware, and system testing, and assist new customers through joint qualification.

What You'll Do

  • Lead system-level validation and qualification, performing end-to-end testing across SSDs, firmware, drivers, OS, networking, and platform configurations.
  • Direct validation test plans from development through completion, including failure analysis, reporting, and coordination with customer joint qualification (JQ) requirements.
  • Perform hands-on system bring-up, debug, and configuration, including OS installation, driver validation, and storage-stack verification.
  • Support customer and partner issue reproduction, converting field and JQ findings into internal test cases and improving validation coverage.
  • Develop and improve automated test frameworks and Python-based tools while driving shift-left validation to influence build and improve product testability.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in SSD, storage, or semiconductor validation with deep knowledge of NVMe and PCIe protocols.
  • Hands-on expertise with Linux environments, system setup, OS bring-up, drive triage, and root-cause analysis of complex issues.
  • Proven background in Enterprise and Datacenter SSD firmware validation, including system-level joint qualification.
  • Proficiency in Python for automation and data analysis, paired with strong communication skills for conveying technical results to internal and external partners.

Nice to Have

  • Experience leading or assisting customer joint qualification (JQ) efforts with OEMs, hyperscalers, or strategic partners.
  • Familiarity with networked storage environments, platform interoperability, and multi-system qualification flows.
  • Hands-on experience with protocol analyzers like Lecroy or JDSU and third-party SSD test platforms like UNH-IOL, PCI-SIG compliance, or SanBlaze.
  • Strong understanding of PCIe topology, BIOS and firmware behavior, Linux storage stacks, and drivers.
  • Knowledge of NAND flash, storage architecture, and FTL development.
