What You'll Do
- Oversee the evaluation and resolution of complex, litigated workers’ compensation claims, stepping in during periods of high volume or staffing gaps.
- Conduct thorough investigations, assess coverage, set appropriate reserves, and develop strategic action plans for claim management.
- Engage in settlement negotiations in alignment with established claims protocols and regulatory standards.
- Respond to inquiries from claimants, insureds, and carrier partners, ensuring timely and accurate communication.
- Review claim files regularly to ensure compliance with internal guidelines and legal requirements.
- Advise on medical management strategies and coordinate with stakeholders to protect the interests of all parties.
- Supervise team members by providing coaching, setting performance goals, and conducting regular evaluations.
- Manage hiring, onboarding, and performance-related decisions while fostering a culture of accountability and growth.
- Lead recurring team and performance meetings to align on objectives, share insights, and improve workflows.
- Participate in claim reviews, roundtables, and risk control initiatives to enhance decision-making and service quality.
- Use performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement process changes.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Active Workers’ Compensation license in your state, or the ability to obtain one within three months of hire
- Minimum of five years of experience handling property and casualty claims, including litigation
- Strong understanding of Workers’ Compensation and General Liability coverages and their practical application
- Familiarity with multi-state insurance regulations and the ability to learn new jurisdictional requirements
- Proven ability to interpret insurance policies, manage claims processes, and meet compliance standards
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and a focus on delivering effective, client-centered solutions
- Experience mentoring teams and contributing to process improvement initiatives
Preferred Qualifications
- College degree in a related field
- Professional designations such as AIC or CPCU
- Background in agency, carrier, or loss control roles
- Prior supervisory experience in a claims environment
