Role Overview
This is a contract position for a Property Tax Appeals Consultant to support expansion into New York State. The ideal candidate will bring practical knowledge of property tax assessment challenges, with a focus on regulatory frameworks, local filing requirements, and hearing procedures. The role offers flexible, hourly engagement via phone or video conferencing, with opportunities for ongoing collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Explain New York State property tax appeal statutes and administrative timelines in clear, actionable terms
- Advise on jurisdictional differences across the state’s most populous counties
- Clarify petition submission processes, including deadlines, required documentation, and evidence standards
- Outline differences between electronic and physical filing methods
- Share practical strategies for preparing and presenting appeals during formal hearings
Qualifications
Candidates must have direct experience within New York’s property tax system—through private practice, firm representation, or government service. A working knowledge of procedures in the five most populated counties is required.
Preferred candidates demonstrate creative problem-solving while maintaining strict adherence to local regulations and submission protocols.
Compensation & Engagement
Compensation ranges from $75 to $100 per hour, with no equity offered. This is an on-demand consulting role, allowing for flexible scheduling based on project needs. There is potential for the relationship to evolve into a sustained partnership.
Work Environment
Consultations are conducted remotely via phone or Zoom, with availability expected on an as-needed basis. The role supports a mission-driven initiative focused on reducing homeownership costs through technology and strategic advocacy.
