Northrop Grumman is seeking a Sr Principal Engineer Systems to join our team on the Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program, a critical component of the Missile Defense System. You will focus on the early-phase concept, requirements, and design activities of the Systems-Engineering Development Lifecycle, directly supporting strategic and operational missile defense. This role is performed on-site at our Colorado Springs, CO, or Huntsville, AL facilities.
What You'll Do
- Lead the development of new system concepts by transforming stakeholder needs into technical approaches.
- Perform requirements elicitation and decomposition using behavioral artifacts such as use cases, activity diagrams, and sequence diagrams.
- Lead the development of physical and logical system models using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approaches and tools.
- Lead system interface development, converting requirements into message-level details for Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and Interface Design Descriptions (IDDs).
- Support formal and informal engineering technical reviews.
- Create, review, and critique interface documents, system requirements, verification documentation, architectural documentation, and engineering estimates.
- Interface with key stakeholders, including the MDA customer and working-level counterparts.
- Engage in Agile development activities such as iteration planning and providing status updates.
- Work as part of an Agile Scrum team guided by a Team Lead.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s Degree in STEM Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university, along with 8 years of experience; or a Master’s degree in a STEM-related field with 6 years of relevant work experience; or a PhD in a related STEM discipline with 4 years of relevant work experience.
- Current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, required to start.
- Willingness to travel 10% of the time for business needs.
Nice to Have
- Master’s Degree in Systems Engineering.
- INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) Certification.
- Object Management Group Certified Systems Modeling Professional - Model Builder Fundamental (OCSMP - MBF).
- 9+ years of experience as a Systems Engineer working in an integrated team environment across the Systems Engineering Development Lifecycle.
- Experience regularly interacting with customers, specifically in eliciting customer needs and requirements.
- Experience with at least one element of the Missile Defense System.
- Experience with one or more elements involved in Space Defense, Space Domain Awareness, or other Space Missions.
- Experience with complex Command and Control Systems, especially those with extensive networking capabilities.
- Experience performing concept development and requirements decomposition.
- Experience with using MBSE approaches and tools (e.g., Cameo).
- Ability to clearly and concisely communicate (written and verbal) with others, present technical content, and receive critical feedback.
- Ability to support short-notice and/or urgent tasks without a loss of efficiency.
