Blue Cross NC is hiring a Senior Actuarial Analyst to apply mathematical and business principles to complex actuarial work. This role provides technical support for rating, pricing, healthcare economics, and financial forecasting, working with minimal supervision as part of a team of actuaries to coordinate the actuarial aspects of health programs.
What You'll Do
- Perform qualitative and quantitative analysis to support the development of rating plans and product pricing.
- Evaluate moderately complex trend analysis.
- Support the rating process by determining needs for and building actuarial model enhancements, and communicating changes to stakeholders.
- Review the appropriateness of actuarial formulae.
- Transmit rate filings to regulatory agencies (NCDOI, CMS).
- Support valuation by modifying and executing the ALR model, performing assumption studies, and calculating reserve impacts.
- Assist in preparing the Annual Actuarial Memorandum, Premium Deficiency Reserve Study, and quarterly/annual statutory results.
- Distribute established reports, respond to inquiries, and investigate trends and anomalies.
- Support the resolution of control exceptions and maintain control documentation.
- Participate in requirements gathering for corporate projects and serve as a delegate or backup.
- Plan, implement, manage, and/or contribute to moderate/high complexity projects.
- Participate in good standing in the Actuarial Development Program.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree or advanced degree.
- 4+ years of relevant actuarial experience.
- Must have completed 5 or more exams towards the ASA designation.
- In lieu of minimum exam requirements, additional relevant experience may be considered.
- In lieu of the minimum experience requirement, an ASA designation or more exams towards ASA may be considered.
Nice to Have
- Base knowledge of SQL and advanced Excel – Highly Preferred
- Experience building complex financial models – Highly Preferred
- Proven ability to communicate complex actuarial concepts to non-actuarial stakeholders and senior management.
- Strong critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills.
