American Cancer Society is hiring a Specialist, Regulatory Compliance - Remote

This remote position plays a key role in maintaining regulatory compliance for a national nonprofit’s fundraising and event operations. The Specialist, Regulatory Compliance ensures adherence to IRS, state, and local requirements by managing tax documentation, regulatory filings, and exemption certifications across multiple jurisdictions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee tax compliance for prize winners, including determining withholding obligations, collecting required documentation, and preparing IRS reports tied to fundraising initiatives.
  • Manage charitable gaming and alcohol-related permits and licenses; prepare, review, and submit filings for sales and use tax, property tax, and business registrations.
  • Track and maintain tax-exempt statuses and certificates, evaluating eligibility, documentation needs, and renewal timelines across jurisdictions.
  • Interpret updates to federal, state, and local regulations and translate them into actionable compliance steps for internal teams.
  • Develop and maintain internal compliance resources, controls, and documentation to support consistent, auditable processes.
  • Support unclaimed property reporting, conduct compliance reviews, and assist with special projects, while serving as backup for senior compliance roles as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, law, or a related field.
  • At least three years of relevant experience or a combination of education and professional background in regulatory or tax compliance.
  • Proven ability to assess legal and regulatory requirements and implement appropriate compliance measures.
  • Strong communication and advisory skills, with a focus on collaboration and service.
  • High level of accuracy and commitment to quality assurance in reporting and documentation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and experienced with enterprise systems including Salesforce, NetSuite, Coupa, SharePoint, Conga, and Workday.
  • Skilled at managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines in a fast-moving environment.

Compensation and Benefits
