The Hartford is hiring a Special Investigations Unit Field Investigator to conduct thorough, timely, and impartial investigations of suspicious insurance claims. You will play a critical role in ensuring accurate claim resolution across all lines of business, working for a company determined to make a difference.
What You'll Do
- Spend 100% of your time traveling within the assigned region (Virginia and Northern North Carolina) to visit loss sites, interview witnesses, and collect evidence.
- Investigate all lines of business, including Medical Investigations in Auto, Worker’s Compensation, General Liability, Group Benefits, and Property losses.
- Partner with claim handlers across the company to investigate suspicious claims.
- Conduct face-to-face interactions with insureds, claimants, witnesses, experts, and other professionals.
- Handle assignments referred by claim staff and proactively identify losses appropriate for SIU involvement.
- Develop facts, exercise due diligence around evidence collection, and conduct interviews using appropriate investigative methods.
- Communicate investigative findings both orally and in writing, including preparing detailed reports.
- Understand local fraud trends and share intelligence with SIU analytical resources and the broader SIU community.
- Interface with the SIU Community and Law Enforcement, attending industry meetings like those hosted by the NICB.
- Continually enhance investigative skills and understanding of emerging issues impacting claims.
- Provide support to claims partners by identifying training needs, helping develop and present training, and mentoring both internal and external partners.
What We're Looking For
- A minimum of 3 years of special investigation insurance experience and/or investigative law enforcement experience.
- Must reside roughly within 30 miles of Richmond, VA to cover the assigned territory.
- Strong interviewing and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- The ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
- A consistent high level of performance and achievement throughout your career.
- Strong critical thinking and analytical skills; ability to make deductions and think logically and sequentially.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and diplomacy skills.
- A valid driver’s license.
Nice to Have
- A Bachelor’s Degree.
- A solid understanding of SIU or relevant claim processes, practices, and applicable laws and regulations.
- Professional designations such as CIFI, FCLS, or FCLA.
Team & Environment
You will report to the SIU Manager and collaborate closely with claim handlers across all lines of business.
Benefits & Compensation
- Compensation range: $87,200 - $130,800
- A company car, cell phone, and wireless laptop are provided.
- Eligibility for short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
Work Mode
This position is based locally in the Richmond, VA area and requires 100% travel within the assigned territory of Virginia and Northern North Carolina.
