Tetra Tech is adding a Solid Waste Engineer to our team to help deliver engineering and geoscience services for specialized waste facilities. In this role, you will be responsible for the siting, design, operation, closure, and monitoring of these critical infrastructures. We are looking for an experienced professional based in Canada to join our remote team.
What You'll Do
- Develop and analyze integrated waste-management systems for public and private clients.
- Design landfill infrastructure, including layout, liners, leachate collection/treatment, surface water management, covers, and LFG systems.
- Design transfer stations and compost facilities; provide operational guidance for landfills, transfer stations, and composting sites.
- Monitor facility compliance and perform site inspections and field oversight.
- Prepare technical specifications, construction drawings, and Construction Quality Assurance programs.
- Manage tenders, contracts, contractors, and construction phase activities.
- Produce project scopes, cost estimates, schedules, and plans to deliver projects on time and on budget.
- Create and manage sub-consultant and sub-contractor agreements.
- Provide senior technical review and professional authentication of reports, memos, and drawings.
- Mentor and coach project teams, including field and technical staff.
- Maintain client and stakeholder relationships and support business development through RFP review, proposal writing, and value proposition.
- Develop and implement project-specific health & safety documentation; conduct safety inspections and ensure compliance.
- Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
- Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
- Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
What We're Looking For
- A Bachelor of Engineering degree (minimum).
- 10–25 years of progressive design and construction-management experience, including project management on medium to large projects (engineering fees > $500K).
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) and membership in at least one Canadian engineering association.
- Experience in civil/municipal consulting and familiarity with relevant provincial and federal codes and regulations.
- Strong technical, written, and verbal communication skills; proven leadership and stakeholder-management ability.
- Demonstrated time management, multitasking, adaptability, and teamwork across junior to senior staff.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and safety leadership.
- Valid provincial Class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent).
Nice to Have
- Master’s in a waste-management–related field preferred.
- PMP certification is an asset.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D is an asset.
- Completion of safety training is an asset.
- Certifications or training from recognized solid-waste organizations (e.g., SWANA, Compost Council of Canada) are an asset.
