Waymo is hiring a Software Technical Lead Manager to lead the Systems Engineering team's technical strategy for a seamless testing continuum and automated verification of complex safety-critical systems. You will manage and mentor a team of Software, Hardware, and Systems Test Engineers while scaling hardware-in-the-loop infrastructure.
What You'll Do
- Define and drive the technical roadmap for a seamless testing continuum, bridging the gap between virtual simulation and high-fidelity hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) environments.
- Oversee the development and scaling of hardware-in-the-loop test infrastructure, ensuring high-availability and automated deployment.
- Act as the senior software engineering leader for the team, ensuring automation frameworks are production-grade and maintainable.
- Lead the technical strategy for automated verification and validation of new software, firmware, hardware, and platform configurations.
- Grow and manage a diverse team of Software Engineers, Hardware Engineers, and Systems Test Engineers.
- Collaborate closely with Hardware Engineering, Software Simulation, and Program leadership.
What We're Looking For
- BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics or a similar technical field of study.
- Extensive experience as a Technical Lead or Manager in a production software environment using C++ and/or Python.
- Proven track record of managing complex HW/SW integration projects, ideally in robotics, autonomous vehicles, or aerospace.
- Experience setting long-term roadmaps for infrastructure that serves a diverse set of internal customers.
Nice to Have
- Deep familiarity with modern CI/CD, scalable test infrastructure, and data-driven verification.
- Experience with HIL vendors like dSPACE or NI, real-time embedded systems, and/or safety-critical software standards (ISO 26262, DO-178C, IEC 62304).
- A mindset that treats test environments as products, focusing on customer adoption and ROI.

Benefits & Compensation
- Salary range: $281,000—$356,000 USD
- Eligible to participate in Waymo’s equity incentive plan.
