As the Machine Learning Manager for Borrowing, you'll lead a high-impact team of Senior ML Scientists, shaping the future of credit risk modeling and automated decisioning. Your work will directly influence how borrowing products are developed and optimized, balancing customer needs with responsible lending practices.
What You'll Do
- Lead technical development and deployment of machine learning models across personal and business credit portfolios
- Identify new applications of data and ML to improve decision accuracy, customer experience, and portfolio performance
- Manage and mentor a team of senior individual contributors, fostering technical growth and ownership
- Collaborate with Credit Strategy, Product, and Engineering leaders to align modeling efforts with business goals
- Work with external partners and data providers to bring innovative approaches into the credit space
- Improve tooling, workflows, and modeling standards to ensure models are robust, scalable, and compliant
- Partner with other modeling teams to share knowledge and adopt emerging techniques
Requirements
- Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, and statistical methods
- Deep understanding of credit products, risk modeling, data sources, and regulatory context
- Proven experience leading the full lifecycle of credit risk models—from scoping to monitoring
- Track record of delivering complex projects with cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders
- Experience mentoring senior technical staff and guiding modeling best practices
- Familiarity with data governance and model oversight in regulated environments
Technical Stack
You'll work with Google Cloud Platform, BigQuery, dbt, and the PyData ecosystem. The team also uses Google AI Platform, AWS, Python, Go, and enterprise AI tools including Gemini, ChatGPT Enterprise, and Claude Code to enhance productivity.
Work Mode
This role supports a hybrid model with base locations in London or fully remote within the UK. You’ll have flexibility in your working hours, trusted to deliver results on a schedule that aligns with your team. Occasional travel to London may be required for in-person collaboration.

Compensation
Salary range: £100,000 to £160,000. Equity is not included.
