Prematch is looking for a Software Engineering Manager to build and scale our engineering team in Canada. You will be responsible for growing a high-performing team, providing technical leadership, and shaping our engineering culture as we double in size over the next year.
What You'll Do
- Manage 3-5 engineers initially and hire an additional 3-5 engineers, covering multiple teams and specializations.
- Provide feedback on product and technical specifications to help engineers scope projects effectively and improve quality.
- Coach and grow engineers to take large, loosely defined projects and deliver them with minimal intervention.
- Jump into systems and code to debug customer issues, ship bug fixes, or improve developer experience.
- Propose and lead department and company-wide initiatives, such as improving pull request reviews or designing interview processes.
What We're Looking For
- A former engineer who has built impressive products and now builds teams of great engineers.
- Experience and leadership to help thoughtfully double the size of an engineering team.
- You enjoy coding and find time to stay current with technology.
- Demonstrated ambition, courage, and follow-through to drive change within teams or across departments.
- You could have been (or were) a Principal engineer.
- You thrive with a team of engineers who have significant ownership and autonomy.
- An optimistic mindset, convinced that a large engineering team can function differently from the status quo.
Team & Environment
The engineering team is doubling in the next year. You will work closely with the Co-Founder/VP of Engineering and your peers, reporting directly to the Co-Founder and VP of Engineering. Our culture emphasizes minimal process, ownership over decisions, natural collaboration, and investing in tools that provide leverage. Engineers run their projects, write specs, and build wireframes.
