Elsevier is seeking a Site Reliability Engineering Lead to lead a team of SREs responsible for the cloud infrastructure powering our LNRS Data Engineering platforms. In this key leadership role, you will focus on improving performance, cost, and reliability, using DORA DevOps Metrics as a North Star to drive operational excellence.
What You'll Do
- Deliver highly elastic, cloud-native solutions and patterns.
- Empower stakeholders and reduce toil by building self-service pipelines.
- Drive best practices in cloud-native architecture, security, and DRY principles through your team.
- Mentor your team on deep technical issues, advanced cloud infrastructure topics, and complex coding problems.
- Set an example of methodical, systematic task execution.
- Work with project managers and stakeholders to provide status and reporting.
- Act as an ambassador to other teams, finding common ground and defining clear agreements.
- Drive projects to schedule.
- Perform rigorous code reviews focused on best practices.
- Apply continuous process improvement techniques across operations.
- Automate everything.
- Ensure infrastructure is fully Infrastructure-as-Code (IAC), rebuildable from the ground up without manual configurations or the Azure Portal.
What We're Looking For
- Experience leading or designing application and/or infrastructure migration projects from on-prem to cloud.
- Proven expertise in partnering with and leading technology resources to solve complex business needs.
- Cloud architecture design and implementation experience to meet key business and team goals.
- Hands-on experience with Terraform and GitHub Actions.
- Deep knowledge of Azure Networking (private endpoints, private DNS zones, peerings, NSG rules, route tables, VNETs).
- Experience with Azure Function Apps and IaaS in Azure.
- Understanding of Microsoft Entra ID, including RBAC, service principals, and managed identities.
- Expertise in a scripting language (PowerShell or Bash).
- Experience implementing data virtualization technologies.
- Experience managing cloud storage technologies (blob, table, file, queues, services).
- A strong and enthusiastic technologist with demonstrable broad technical cloud knowledge.
Nice to Have
- Performance analysis and tuning experience.
- Experience with Purview, Fabric, and Unity Catalog.
- Experience with Azure Data Factory.
- Experience with Azure Machine Learning and Azure Databricks.

- Compensation for Home-based Illinois: $124,200 - $230,800. For Chicago, IL: $130,200 - $241,800.
