The Senior Writer will be responsible for creating, updating, and formatting technical publications using standardized markup languages such as SGML, HTML, and XML. This includes transforming technical input into structured, accessible formats for print, digital, or web delivery. The role demands close coordination with engineers, quality assurance personnel, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure documentation reflects current system configurations and meets all regulatory and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Convert technical specifications and engineering data into structured markup formats for publication across multiple platforms.
- Maintain document accuracy by aligning content with the latest equipment and system updates.
- Collaborate within the Technical Publications team to meet project timelines and adhere to internal writing and editing standards.
- Produce clear, well-organized content and, when necessary, supply direction for supporting visuals.
- Ensure all deliverables follow required specifications, are logically structured, and fulfill customer expectations.
- Perform additional tasks as needed to support documentation goals.
Required Qualifications
- Proficiency in markup languages including SGML, XML, and HTML.
- Experience with various PC-based software tools used in technical documentation.
- Post-secondary education is required.
- Eligibility to obtain Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), U.S. ITAR, and Canadian government security clearances is mandatory.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Post-secondary training in technical writing or a related field.
- Prior experience in technical documentation or a similar role.
- Familiarity with S1000D, ATA specifications, CALs, and MIL/STD standards is a strong advantage.
- Knowledge of aircraft, naval, or land-based mechanical, electrical, or electronic systems is beneficial.
- Experience with at least two of the following: Adobe Framemaker, InDesign, Arbortext Epic Editor, or Adobe Acrobat Pro.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
- Problem-solving ability and analytical thinking.
- Bilingual authoring capability (English and French) is preferred.
- Understanding of Configuration Management principles.
Work Environment
This is an onsite position with no remote flexibility. All candidates must be able to report to the worksite from day one.
