About the Role

Djamo is seeking a Senior Tech Lead (Frontend) to lead a new cross-functional squad, elevate engineering practices, and act as a force multiplier for the team. In this role, you will be accountable for delivery, technical direction, and people leadership while remaining deeply technical and hands-on.

What You'll Do

  • Lead a cross-functional product squad (70% of your time): own delivery and technical direction, conduct weekly 1:1s, provide feedback, manage career growth, and coordinate sprints.
  • Break down complex projects into well-scoped work, manage dependencies, and ensure consistent shipping.
  • Partner closely with Product and Design to shape the product roadmap and what gets built.
  • Raise the engineering bar across the organization (20% of your time): act as a technical sounding board, help first-time managers develop leadership skills, and drive improvements to code review, testing, CI/CD, and design docs.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions that impact multiple teams.
  • Stay technical (30% overlap with leadership duties): write and review code, lead by example on design quality and system thinking, and own technical decisions for your squad.

What We're Looking For

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including building and maintaining production systems at scale.
  • 5+ years leading a team of engineers with direct people management responsibilities (1:1s, feedback, growth plans).
  • Proven experience working effectively in a cross-functional team alongside product managers and designers.
  • Strong mobile or frontend engineering background with a history of shipping user-facing applications.
  • Ability to context-switch seamlessly between deep technical work and people leadership.
  • Clear communication in English, both written and verbal, to explain technical decisions to non-technical partners.
  • A track record of improving engineering practices such as testing, code review, CI/CD, and documentation.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Flutter.
  • French-speaking ability.
  • Background in fintech, payments, or regulated environments.
  • Experience mentoring or coaching other engineering managers or tech leads.
  • Familiarity with backend systems, including APIs, event-driven architecture, and distributed systems.

Team & Environment

You will lead a new cross-functional squad and provide functional leadership over mobile and frontend engineers. The engineering team currently consists of 27 engineers across four squads, with this role forming the fifth. You will report to the VP of Engineering.
