About the Role

The Indiana Department of Correction and Madison State Hospital is hiring a Senior Systems Administrator to lead enterprise software distribution and modernization. You will manage the packaging, testing, and deployment of applications across thousands of endpoints for the State of Indiana, using tools like Microsoft Intune and SCCM to improve the entire software lifecycle.

What You'll Do

  • Build and maintain application packages.
  • Manage deployment rings and pilot testing.
  • Troubleshoot failed deployments.
  • Coordinate with Security and Archer approval processes.
  • Support the transition from legacy deployment models to modern cloud-based device management.
  • Test, debug, and document system software upgrades and new releases, which may include program design and coding.
  • Evaluate new and existing software products.
  • Implement operating system enhancements to improve system reliability and performance.
  • Design, develop, modify, and maintain complex system software using releases and utilities.
  • Assign staff to various projects, direct their activities, and evaluate their work.
  • May perform as team lead or project manager in assigned areas.
  • May oversee multiple projects or project phases.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to new and lower-level staff.
  • Confer with department management to assist in planning, organizing, and controlling activities of assigned areas.
  • Ensure long-term requirements of systems operations and administration, including overall systems planning.
  • Install, maintain, and configure computer software and ensure the integrity of its components.
  • Conduct quality assurance review of system software.
  • Define system software and hardware requirements.
  • Analyze complex IT issues and develop innovative solutions.
  • Implement best practices for system reliability, performance, and security.
  • Manage crisis situations and ensure quick resolution of critical incidents.

What We're Looking For

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Technology or related field and 1+ years of experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Technology or related field and 3+ years of experience
  • Associate's Degree in Computer Technology or related field and 5+ years of experience
  • 7+ years of experience applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role
  • Demonstrated ability to package and deploy applications using tools such as Intune, SCCM, or similar enterprise endpoint management platforms.
  • Ability to diagnose deployment failures, dependency issues, and packaging errors while improving processes through scripting and automation.
  • Ability to coordinate with security teams, application owners, and service management teams to move software through approval, packaging, and deployment pipelines.
  • Thorough knowledge of information technology system including software, hardware and their impact on the various components.
  • Thorough knowledge of policies, standards, procedures and techniques.
  • Thorough knowledge of information technology equipment, operation and capabilities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with others.
  • Ability to develop and execute system backup and recovery procedures and plans.
  • Ability to work with other information technology support staff to develop capacity planning.
  • Thorough knowledge of installation, maintenance, configuration of system software and system operating systems.
  • Thorough knowledge in the use of tools and utilities to perform the system work.
  • Thorough knowledge of designing, coding, testing, debugging and documenting system software components.
  • Thorough knowledge in performance and tuning techniques.
  • Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
