Responsibilities
- Develop a centralized observability platform for databases to monitor availability, security, reliability, and latency in real time, enabling early detection of potential issues.
- Design secure interfaces using Model Context Protocol (MCP) to allow AI agents to safely access and query production databases without compromising security.
- Create an AI-driven database administrator system to automate routine operations such as performance tuning, capacity forecasting, schema analysis, and incident response.
- Build a self-service platform that allows engineering teams to independently manage Postgres and Redis instances with embedded security and compliance controls.
- Lead initiatives to improve database reliability by enforcing best practices in connection management, query efficiency, backups, failover, and change procedures, including on-call support.
- Work closely with product engineering teams to resolve performance bottlenecks, review data models, and advise on optimal usage patterns for Postgres and Redis.
Requirements
- Minimum of five years of professional backend software development experience using languages such as Python, Go, Java, or Kotlin.
- Extensive hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, including performance optimization, query analysis, replication, recovery, and schema design.
- Proven operational experience with Redis, covering data modeling, clustering, persistence, and management at scale.
- Strong cloud and infrastructure expertise, including GCP (or comparable provider), Terraform, Kubernetes, and Docker.
- History of developing automated systems, tools, or platforms that reduce manual intervention in database operations.
- Solid understanding of system architecture with the ability to design resilient and scalable infrastructure services.
Nice to Have
- Experience working with Google CloudSQL and Google Memorystore.
- Background in building internal platforms, database-as-a-service solutions, or self-service infrastructure tools.
- Familiarity with AI/ML technologies, large language models, or AI-driven automation in infrastructure or operations contexts.
- Knowledge of MCP or similar secure access patterns for programmatic interaction with production systems.
- Experience using observability tools like Grafana, Prometheus, or Datadog to monitor and alert on database health.
- Industry experience in fintech, payments, or regulated sectors where data security, integrity, and compliance are essential.
